First records of the house appeared in 1860. Originally it was one property, called "Dovecote".

1930's
Between the Wars: New pair of solid gates

1963
Split into two properties and closed off arch
The 1979 edition of "The East Grinstead Society" journal suggests that this work was performed "16 years ago", which would date the work at around 1963. At the time of the split Dovecote was renamed No 1 and No 2 Dovecote. Some time later No 2 Dovecote was renamed The Gatehouse.

Lieutenant Colonel W J Gregory
Commencement of ownership not known. Documents from this period refer to Lt Col Gregory's name in the context of both The Gatehouse and Dovecote, suggesting that he was possibly the owner of both properties, and possibly the owner that split them into two separate houses.
